Thoughts & Inspiration

Within the past few weeks we have had the opportunity to go out and explore a bit and it has been incredible. We just so happen to be in a area that has a lot of waterfalls, so of course we had to see them for ourselves.

Waterfalls have always captivated me. There is something about them that is just awe-inspiring. It is similar to the way I feel standing by the ocean or looking up at the mountains or gazing into a night sky filled with stars. There is something about these beautiful feats of nature that help me begin to comprehend just how BIG God is, and just how SMALL I am. My team and I are on a journey of trying to discover more of who God is and how to view Him rightly. I am realizing that too often I place myself in too high of a regard, and God in too low of a regard. But, standing next to a waterfall, taking in God’s glorious creation, my view of God is exalted into it’s rightful place.

I also believe that nature reflects it’s creator, just as we should as well. I wanted to share with you a couple thoughts that came up in our discussion about how we see the Lord reflected in waterfalls.

  1. Power

Waterfalls just exude power, the sight of tons and tons of water crashing down is astounding. Sometimes I think we view the power of God as a trickle of water rather than a crashing, roaring waterfall. His love is POWERFUL, His presence is POWERFUL, His mercy is POWERFUL. It has the ability to bring the dead to life, set the captives free, heal the sick, and bring full transformation. But unless we view the power of God rightly we will never be able to fully experience its sheer magnitude.

     2. Constant

Waterfalls are in constant motion. As I stared up at the water cascading down I was struck by the fact that it was moving before we got there and would continue to do so even after we left. It doesn’t have an on/off switch, it is constant. And the reason it is constant is because the source doesn’t run out. This is God’s love for us. It has been pouring out since the beginning and will continue to be poured out from now into eternity. There’s nothing we can do to turn it off, it comes from a limitless source.

     3. Fresh outpouring

The water below the falls is constantly being affected and changed by that which is pouring into it. It is being churned up and receiving fresh water from the source constantly. When we are being poured into by the Lord we are receiving fresh, new life daily. He is transforming our hearts, our souls, and our minds. When we are receiving this fresh outpouring we cannot stay stagnant or remain unchanged. We are changed and moved by the love that is poured into us.

I feel like I could stare up a waterfall for hours upon hours and never cease to be completely mesmerized and captivated. My prayer is that as I continue to discover more and more of who God is, that I am filled with the same all consuming awe and wonder of just how big and good He truly is.
